Release date:2020-06-22 | Number of views:1255

Seed melon is commonly known as a kind of watermelon. It is a year-round vine herbaceous plant. Seed melon is a dual-purpose type of seed and meat. After long-term cultivation and continuous selection, it has formed a cultivated species with full grains, thick kernels and fragrant flavors, with grains as the main product. Seed melon has a well-developed root system and a tap root system. The stem is spurred, with bristles on the surface and strong branching ability. The leaves are single leaf alternate, five-lobed, green. The flowers are small yellow. The shape of the fruit is oval, green when immature, and yellow when mature. There are also various patterns, strips and so on. The pulp is mainly white and slightly yellow, with a light sweet taste. The seeds are flat and oblong.  Growth environment

Seed melon is native to the savannah climate zone of Africa, where the high temperature all year round makes it form the biological characteristics of high temperature resistance.

Temperature

The tropical climate is more adaptable to its growth. It likes warmth. It can grow healthily at a high temperature of 30-40°C. It is not cold-tolerant and reproductive. Higher temperatures are required during the growth period. The temperature reaches below 18°C, which affects the normal growth of seed melon. When the temperature is 5℃, the above-ground part stops growing.

Light

Seed melons are particularly sensitive to sunlight. If there are many sunny days and long sunshine hours, the plants will grow robustly, with thick stems, short internodes, fat leaves, oily green leaves, and high yields.

Moisture

Seed melons are resistant to drought, but grow well with a reasonable water supply. It is afraid of being flooded and wet.

Soil

On poor sandy soil, seed melons can still grow healthily. Therefore, my country is suitable for growing seed melons in places with high temperatures, high terrain and poor soil, such as Gansu and Xinjiang.

According to these characteristics, large-scale planting is available in Gansu and Xinjiang, and small-scale planting is available in Northeast China.
